Ice Master windshield scraperAre you sick and tired of the ice and snow yet? Make scraping your windshield easier with an Ice Master or IceDozer Windshield Ice Scraper, best windshield scrapers available.

I live in a warm climate again, but I sure do remember my years back in Washington, DC. My first winter, I think it was 1984, was a record year for ice and freezing rain. It's miserable.

I can still remember being completely unprepared and not knowing how to deal with the ice. After the first experience with freezing rain I purchased a basic scraper from the local auto parts store. It was all they had. You had to chip, grind and scrape away at the windshield to make a little hole you can peep through while you wait for the defroster to do its job. Miserable, just miserable!

Today, the options are much better. I found two devices that I wish I had back in the day, the Ice Master and the IceDozer. Frankly, the IceDozer ice scraper looks a little scary, but watching the video it seems to do an amazing job. Checkout the video on this page:

IceDozer Plus Ergonomic Ice Scraper

IceDozer Ice Scraper

The IceDozer Ice Scraper easily breaks through heavy ice so it can be easily scraped away.

The IceDozer offers these interesting product features:

  • FlexiBlade and Ice Tenderizers to deal with even the most stubborn ice
  • Ergonomic handles make it easy to use, regardless of user's size or strength
  • Brush can be removed for clearing snow from hard to reach areas
  • Clear ice chunks off of windshield wipers with the specially-designed notch
  • Backed by a lifetime warranty, made in the USA

What the IceDozer appears to do with 'brute force', the Ice Master seems to work out with finesse.  Here's what the makers of the Ice Master have to say:

  • Four blade positions allow the Ice Master to perform in the worst icy conditions.
  • The blades lock in three different ice-scraping positions, and the ice-breaking teeth provide the fourth ice removal option. Clear away frost twice as fast!
  • The two brass blades clear more surface area when used in a back and forth motion.
  • A single pass over the glass is like two passes in effect, so you're clearing more frost without actually doing more work.
  • For the purists, the dual blades can be locked in the forward position to work as a conventional ice scraper.
  • The stationary center blade is highly effective on hard ice and mirrors. Use it to clear hard ice after cracking it with the plastic teeth.
  • Tough polycarbonate teeth on the backside of the center blade allow you to crack thicker ice so you can then clear it off the glass.
  • The Ice Master is made of tough polycarbonate with softened brass blades and a rubberized handle.
  • The Ice Master comes with a 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects.

It is interesting with the dual, adjustable blades:

The Ice Master Ice Scraper has dual, adjustable blades so it scrapes in both directions.

What I like about the Ice Master is its compact size (see it here: Windshield Ice Scraper) and its ability to be used with a single hand. That's important for me, because I usually have a cup of coffee in the other hand!

So, how do these two titan shake out? Reading the reviews, owners seem to like both of them. So, I think it comes down to this:

  • For large vehicles with a lot of glass (SUV's, trucks, vans, etc.), the IceDozer seems to be the right tool.
  • For smaller vehicles (sport, compact, etc.) the smaller size and finesse ability of the Ice Master would be a great fit.

Other things to think about are:

  • The lifetime warranty on the IceDozer (that's hard to beat).
  • Compact size of the Ice Master

Both are a huge improvement over the standard windshield/ice scraper you're using now.
